Wedoany.com Report-Jun 8, On May 30, 2025, South Lanarkshire Council granted planning permission for Wind2 to develop the 20MW Woolfords wind farm, located 1.6km west of Woolfords village near West Calder, South Lanarkshire. The project will feature three turbines, each up to 180 meters tall, and is expected to generate approximately 70,000 MWh of electricity annually, sufficient to power around 19,500 homes.
Wind2 conducted a public consultation in 2021, receiving largely positive feedback with no objections raised. The initiative includes a community benefit fund of up to £100,000 per year, offering electricity bill discounts for nearby residents and supporting local projects through the West Calder and Harburn Community Development Trust (WATIF) and the council’s Renewable Energy Fund.
Wind2 project manager Ewan Eley stated: “The project has faced complexities, including radar mitigation and grid upgrades, but we’ve had unwavering support from Hamilton Farms Ltd.” The collaboration with Hamilton Farms, the landowners, has been instrumental in advancing the project. A representative from Hamilton Farms noted: “Where others have failed, Wind2 has remained committed and engaged with us and the community. We now look forward to construction.”
The wind farm aligns with Scotland’s goal of achieving 20GW of onshore wind capacity. Wind2’s development director Fraser Mackenzie commented: “This is another step towards Scotland’s 20GW onshore wind target. The team has worked hard, and we’re excited for the next phase.” The approval marks a significant milestone, with construction set to follow, enhancing local renewable energy production and supporting sustainable development in the region.
