India's SJVN Commissions 75 MW Jamui Solar Project
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 13, India's state-owned power utility SJVN disclosed that its wholly-owned subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited, has achieved commercial operation of the 75 MW Jamui solar project in Bihar. The project has transitioned from the construction phase to the power generation operation phase, becoming a new utility-scale solar asset for SJVN in Bihar.
Located in Hadhadiya village near Kakanchaur in the Jamui district of Bihar, the project spans approximately 300 acres and was allocated by the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency through a competitive tariff-based bidding process. SJVN previously disclosed that it secured the project development rights in January 2022 and signed a power purchase agreement in May of the same year, with the electricity generated during the agreement period to be supplied to the Bihar grid.
The main engineering work for the project was undertaken by Hartek Power, with a contract value of approximately INR 1.13 billion. The scope of implementation includes a 75 MW AC-side solar power plant, land development, engineering design, equipment procurement, civil and electrical construction, installation and commissioning, performance testing, and a 132 kV substation. Supporting transmission and transformation facilities are used to connect the project's power to the local grid.
In terms of the project timeline, the Jamui solar project was previously planned to be commissioned in 2025. As of March 2025, SJVN had disclosed an engineering progress of approximately 70%, with solar module supply essentially completed and installation of major equipment still underway. The achievement of the commercial operation date indicates that the project has completed grid connection tests, performance verification, and commercial operation approvals, albeit later than the earlier plan.
Following the project's commissioning, the procurement window for new construction equipment has largely closed. Future demand will shift toward solar module cleaning, inverter and transformer spare parts, maintenance of 132 kV substation equipment, supervisory control and data acquisition system upgrades, drone inspections, power forecasting, security, and long-term operation and maintenance services for the plant.
