en.Wedoany.com Reported - August 12 news — German printing ink and functional coatings manufacturer Siegwerk is expanding its two production sites in Des Moines, Iowa, and Morganton, North Carolina, to boost capacity for solvent-based, water-based, and UV-curable inks, strengthening regional supply capabilities for the North American packaging and label markets.

The Des Moines site serves as Siegwerk's North American headquarters and solvent-based packaging ink production hub. It is currently undergoing modernization of its milling and mixing equipment, along with the introduction of an online batch production system to improve changeover efficiency and order response times for multi-product ink manufacturing. Construction of a new warehouse at the site began in June 2026, which will add storage space for raw materials, solvent-based inks, and finished goods, providing supporting conditions for subsequent production line expansion.

The Morganton site primarily produces water-based inks, UV-curable inks, and narrow-web label printing products. This round of expansion will add production capacity for water-based and UV inkjet inks, while equipping the facility with new milling, dispersion, and mixing equipment to broaden the narrow-web packaging and label ink product portfolio. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.

Siegwerk will also install a rooftop photovoltaic system at the Morganton site to supply a portion of renewable electricity to production facilities, with surplus power available for feed-in to the local grid. The related construction covers ink formulation, milling and dispersion, automated mixing, batch control, raw material storage and handling, solvent safety management, exhaust gas treatment, warehousing and logistics, and distributed photovoltaic systems.

The expansion of the two US sites is part of Siegwerk's "Formula 2030" growth strategy. The company plans to invest more than €300 million globally over the next five years in production capacity expansion, process automation, digital platforms, warehousing facilities, and targeted acquisitions, though it has not separately disclosed the investment amounts for the Des Moines and Morganton projects.
