West Cobar Metals Commences 1,000m First Drilling at Blind Freddie
en.Wedoany.com Reported - West Cobar Metals (ASX:WC1) has commenced air-core drilling approximately 50km west of Cobar in New South Wales, marking the first underground test of the Blind Freddie prospect. The prospect is wholly owned by the company and forms part of the Cobar West Project, with up to 1,000 metres of drilling planned.

The drilling will test copper anomaly readings identified in the Winduck Group siltstones and sandstones through rock chips and surface gravel sampling. The target zone lies within a copper anomaly extending over 2.5 kilometres, with gold also detected within the prospect area. Blind Freddie is situated directly west of a strong gravity anomaly, with survey data indicating denser rocks at depth.
Managing Director Matt Szwedzicki stated that the drilling will test whether surface copper assay results, mapped geological structures, and gravity anomalies point to mineralisation at depth. He noted that Blind Freddie is a greenfields target defined by surface geochemistry, interpreted structures, and gravity data, and this air-core drilling marks the first time the target has been tested by drilling.
West Cobar holds tenure covering approximately 1,091 square kilometres, spanning around 120 kilometres of stratigraphy considered prospective for Cobar-style mineralisation. The company stated that multiple copper targets concealed beneath cover exist within the region, with geological and survey characteristics similar to the CSA Mine and the Hera deposit.
The Cobar West Project portfolio also includes the Bulla Park copper-antimony-silver deposit, with an inferred mineral resource of 20 million tonnes at 0.58% copper equivalent (CuEq), comprising 0.30% copper, 0.10% antimony, and 4.7 grams per tonne silver. The deposit lies beneath 60 to 120 metres of barren cover with almost no surface expression. The company believes its significant gravity anomaly reflects dense alteration rocks associated with mineralisation, indicating that gravity data can assist in locating concealed targets at depth.
The company expects drilling at Blind Freddie to be completed within two weeks, followed by assay analysis.
