Spain's Gamudéjar I PV Plant to Add 170MWh Energy Storage

en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Directorate General of Energy and Mines of the Government of Aragon (Dirección General de Energía y Minas del Gobierno de Aragón) has accepted an administrative authorization application for the hybrid retrofitting of the Gamudéjar I photovoltaic plant in Samper de Calanda, Teruel Province. The plant currently has an installed capacity of 35 MW, and the retrofit plan will introduce a lithium-ion electrochemical energy storage system.

The project is promoted by Galaxy Energy SL, a company affiliated with Nexwell Power. The energy storage component is planned with a power rating of 37.94 MW and a total capacity of 170.51 MWh.

The core equipment of the storage facility comes from Chinese manufacturer Sungrow: 34 ST5015UX battery containers, each with an energy unit of 5.015 kWh; 8 MVS5140-LS substations, each with a capacity of 5140 kVA; 145 SC210HX inverters, each with a power rating of 210 kVA; and 59 SC125HX inverters, each with a power rating of 127 kVA, totaling a conversion power of 37.94 MVA. The system is also equipped with two auxiliary service transformers with capacities of 160 kVA and 130 kVA, respectively, providing a total auxiliary power supply of 1100 kVA.

The substations are interconnected via 30 kV underground lines using RH5Z1-OL AL conductors, with a voltage rating of 18/30 (36) kV, single-core cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, a cross-section of 240 + 630 mm², and up to two conductors per phase.

Grid connection will be completed using existing network infrastructure. The retrofitted system will be connected through the Gamudéjar I substation and the high-voltage lines linking the Mudéjar Norte and Mudéjar Promotores substations, ultimately reaching the REE Mudéjar 400 kV substation.

The project falls under the simplified environmental assessment exemption set forth in Royal Decree 997/2025 (Real Decreto 997/2025). The polygon area of the original project has already undergone environmental assessment and obtained a favorable Environmental Impact Statement, and the hybrid retrofit does not extend beyond that area.
