en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 19, Asahi Kasei announced that its new plant construction project for alkaline water electrolysis systems and ion-exchange membrane chlor-alkali electrolysis equipment at its Kawasaki Plant has been certified under Kanagawa Prefecture's corporate attraction policy "Select Kanagawa NEXT" and has received a grant decision from Kawasaki City under the "Kawasaki Waterfront Industrial Competitiveness Enhancement Subsidy."

The new plants will produce electrolytic frames and electrolytic membranes for water electrolysis and chlor-alkali electrolysis, with a planned annual production capacity exceeding 2 GW each. Combined with the existing chlor-alkali electrolysis equipment capacity, the company's total annual production capacity for electrolytic frames and membranes will increase to over 3 GW. The total project investment is approximately 31 billion yen (about 210 million USD).

Kanagawa Prefecture's "Select Kanagawa NEXT" program provides a subsidy of 3% of eligible project costs (up to 500 million yen) and a 50% reduction in real estate acquisition tax; the Kawasaki City subsidy is also within 3% of eligible costs (up to 500 million yen). Combined, the two local incentives can cover up to 6% of the project's eligible expenses. The project was previously selected for the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's "GX Supply Chain Construction Support Program" in December 2024, and the construction plan was formally decided in October 2025 with preparations underway. If all central and local subsidies are approved, combined with approximately 11.4 billion yen (about 71.6 million USD) in central government support, total subsidies are expected to cover more than 35% of the project's approximately 31 billion yen cost.

Asahi Kasei positions the Kawasaki Plant as a global key hub for water electrolysis and chlor-alkali systems, concentrating management resources to build a flexible and resilient supply system. The new plants are scheduled to commence operation in fiscal year 2028.
