en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 20, U.S. renewable energy company Pacifico Energy Korea announced that it has been selected as the sole developer for the Jindo Offshore Wind Integrated Cluster Phase 2 in South Korea. The cluster has an installed capacity of 2.13 GW and consists of Pacifico Energy Korea's Manho Offshore Wind Project and Jindo Baram Offshore Wind Project.

Prior to the selection, the two projects had signed implementation management agreements with Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City (formerly South Jeolla Province) and Jindo County. The government-designated cluster is located offshore of Jindo County, Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City, with the local government serving as the implementing agency for the development.

Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City finalized the cluster development plan last year after consulting with relevant government agencies and reviewing it through two public-private councils. In March 2026, the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment designated the area as an integrated cluster. In June of this year, the city established an evaluation committee to review potential developers' qualifications based on development capabilities and implementation plans, subsequently selecting Pacifico Energy Korea's projects.

The selected Manho Offshore Wind Project and Jindo Baram Offshore Wind Project are the second and third phases of Pacifico Energy Korea's Jindo Offshore Wind Project Cluster, which has a total capacity of 3.2 GW. The first phase, the 420 MW Myeong Ryang Offshore Wind Project, obtained its electricity business license in September 2025 and completed its preliminary environmental impact assessment report in March 2026.

Both the 990 MW Manho Offshore Wind Project and the 1.8 GW Jindo Baram Offshore Wind Project have submitted electricity business license applications, which are currently under review. Pacifico Energy Korea stated that this selection is expected to accelerate the development of the Jindo Integrated Cluster Phase 2 and support the expansion of renewable energy supply in the region.

The local government is also advancing the designation of the Honam Semiconductor Cluster, a planned semiconductor manufacturing complex in the Jeonnam-Gwangju region. The developer noted that the offshore wind cluster can provide renewable electricity to energy-intensive industrial facilities, including future semiconductor manufacturing operations.
