Egypt's Minister of Industry Inspects Damietta Furniture City and Multiple Factories, Mix Door's New Plant Commences Production

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 23, Egypt's Minister of Industry, Khaled Hashim, along with Damietta Governor Hossam El-Din Fawzi, inspected several major factories and industrial facilities in Damietta Governorate, covering sectors such as furniture, fertilizers, water treatment components, and textiles. The inspection is part of the Egyptian government's strategy to support key industries, deepen local manufacturing, and expand exports.

During the inspection, Hashim inaugurated the Mix Door interior door factory. The factory, with an investment of EGP 100 million, has an annual production capacity of 100,000 doors, with approximately 25% of its products exported to Saudi Arabia and Iraq. The minister and his delegation also visited five furniture factories, including Zamzam Furniture and Amiti for Armoured Doors. The six factories together represent investments totaling hundreds of millions of Egyptian pounds, providing more than 1,300 direct and indirect jobs, with products exported to markets in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and the United States.

At Damietta Furniture City, Hashim reviewed the project's implementation progress, including workshops, showrooms, service areas, and a 150,000-square-meter free zone, land port, and logistics area, with plans to establish a technical school alongside the project. Hashim stated that the Furniture City is one of Egypt's major national projects and the first and largest specialized industrial zone for furniture and related industries in the Middle East. The minister also inspected the Furniture Technology Center, which provides training programs and quality testing laboratories capable of testing and certifying exported furniture in accordance with European standards.

At the Integrated Free Zone, Hashim inspected Misr Fertilizers Production Company (MOPCO). The company operates a complex spanning 400,000 square meters, with an investment of EGP 53 billion, producing 1.8 million tons of urea and 1.2 million tons of ammonia annually, achieving 100% local production, with approximately 45% of its products exported to European markets. Hashim noted that Egypt possesses a strong industrial base in fertilizer manufacturing, with chemical and fertilizer exports reaching approximately $9.4 billion in 2025, a year-on-year increase of 7%, of which fertilizer exports account for about one-third. He also pointed out that despite recent geopolitical tensions, energy supplies to fertilizer plants have remained stable, strongly supporting production and exports.

The minister also visited Pure Life, a company that produces micron filters and seawater desalination systems, with an investment of EGP 500 million. Its products are exported to 53 countries, with an annual output of approximately 3 million micron filters, 3,000 pressure vessels, and 1,500 industrial filter housings, achieving a localization rate ranging from 60% to 100%. Hashim emphasized that the manufacturing of components for water treatment and seawater desalination plants is a priority industry under Egypt's 2030 Industrial Strategy.

The final stop of the inspection was DNM Textile Printing and Dyeing Company, which has an investment of $170 million, an annual production capacity of 48 million square meters of textiles, and a current annual export value of $120 million, with a target to increase it to $180 million. Hashim stated that the textile industry is a key sector for Egypt's integration into global supply chains, deepening local manufacturing, and expanding exports.
