en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 27, Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines, together with the Loreto Regional Government and representatives of the passenger and cargo transport industry in Iquitos, reached an agreement to expand the fuel subsidy, planning to include motorcycle taxi and multi-modal transport operators in the government's approved targeted direct subsidy mechanism. The government plans to issue a new emergency decree no later than September 18 to expedite the registration of relevant operators.

This adjustment builds on Emergency Decree No. 007-2026, which took effect on August 15. The current decree establishes two temporary subsidy mechanisms, META-Nacional and META-Lima y Callao, with a total budget of up to 105 million soles, of which 60 million soles are allocated to passenger and cargo transport operators nationwide and 45 million soles to public transport operators in Lima and Callao. The national mechanism is calculated based on actual purchases of automotive diesel, with a subsidy of 4 soles per gallon of diesel B5 or B20.

The current META-Nacional subsidy covers three consecutive periods: August 16 to September 15, September 16 to October 15, and October 16 to November 15. Transport operators applying for the subsidy must prove actual fuel purchases with electronic payment receipts, and fuel suppliers must hold a valid hydrocarbon operating registration from Osinergmin. On August 22, the transport authority responsible for implementing the subsidy published the META-Nacional operating rules.

The expansion in Iquitos also involves the registration of waterway transport operators and tractors. The Ministry of Energy and Mines will promote the simplification of registration for vessels and tractors engaged in river transport, enabling relevant operators to enter the subsidy registration process; it also proposes expanding hydrocarbon fuel storage capacity in the Loreto region and increasing the number of local fuel suppliers.

Prior to this meeting, Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines had coordinated fuel supply measures with the local transport industry in Iquitos on August 26, involving arrangements such as increasing market participants and expanding fuel storage facilities. The August 27 meeting further confirmed the subsidy access direction for motorcycle taxi and multi-modal transport operators, and set September 18 as the next milestone for adjusting the relevant registration system.
