en.Wedoany.com Reported - The State Administration for Market Regulation (Standardization Administration of China) recently approved and released the national standard "Technical Guidelines for Methane Emission Monitoring in the Onshore Oil and Natural Gas Industry."

Methane is the second-largest greenhouse gas after carbon dioxide, and its emission control is a key issue in global climate governance. China's oil and gas industry features numerous and widely distributed stations and sites, with complex methane emission sources. Long-standing problems such as inconsistent monitoring methods and an incomplete traceability system have hindered the orderly advancement of precise methane emission control in the industry.

This standard, for the first time, establishes a traceable, integrated methane emission monitoring technical system covering the entire oil and gas production chain, systematically standardizing key aspects such as monitoring tier classification, monitoring method selection, equipment selection and calibration, and data quality control, thereby filling the gap in the series of methane emission monitoring standards for China's onshore oil and gas sector. This standard not only provides a unified technical basis for methane emission control in the domestic oil and gas industry, but also offers an important Chinese technical reference for global methane emission control efforts in the oil and gas industry, holding significant strategic importance for coordinating national energy security and promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of the oil and gas industry.

Currently, this standard has been validated and applied in several central state-owned enterprises, including PetroChina, Sinopec, and China Oil & Gas Pipeline Network Corporation (PipeChina), and will provide solid technical support for the oil and gas industry to achieve national determined contribution (NDC) goals and steadily advance the greenhouse gas emission reduction tasks of the "15th Five-Year Plan."
