China's Photovoltaic Power Capacity Surpasses Coal for the First Time

According to the latest data from the National Energy Administration, as of the end of July this year, the country's installed photovoltaic power capacity reached 1.286 billion kilowatts, surpassing coal for the first time, making solar power officially the nation's largest source of electricity.

Photovoltaics now account for 31.5% of the country's total installed power generation capacity. From January to July this year, national photovoltaic power generation exceeded 802.4 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 15.5%. A simple calculation: one out of every eight kilowatt-hours of electricity generated nationwide now comes from solar power.

Globally, 8 out of every 10 photovoltaic modules are "Made in China." Core technologies remain firmly in the world's top tier, and next-generation advanced photovoltaic technologies are also being accelerated in research and development.

Over the next five years, investment in the photovoltaic industry is expected to exceed 2 trillion yuan. A steady stream of green electricity is both reinforcing a solid shield for national energy security and continuously injecting surging green momentum into high-quality economic development.
