en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 26, Indian PV manufacturer Jakson Solar announced a new round of capacity investment plans, proposing to invest up to INR 50 billion (approximately $525 million) to build 3 GW of solar cell and 3 GW of ingot and wafer manufacturing facilities. The company's Managing Director, Ivan Saha, presented the investment arrangements during the Renewable Energy India Expo, with the cell production line planned to commence operations in December 2027, and the ingot and wafer capacity planned to be completed in the third quarter of India's fiscal year 2028.

The production facilities will primarily supply products to external customers rather than solely meeting the company's internal module manufacturing needs. Jakson Solar has finalized procurement cooperation arrangements for the relevant manufacturing equipment and is advancing capacity construction in the upstream manufacturing segment. The company currently operates a solar module factory with an annual capacity of 1.2 GW, and the new cell and wafer facilities will cover additional PV manufacturing processes.

The Jakson Group has previously launched an integrated PV manufacturing project in the Maxi Industrial Area of Ujjain district, Madhya Pradesh, India. The group's plan announced in 2025 involves over INR 80 billion in investment, with phased construction of solar module, cell, ingot, and wafer capacity. Phase one includes 3 GW of cell and 4 GW of module capacity, with subsequent phases involving upstream ingot and wafer manufacturing. The investment amount, equipment procurement arrangements, and commissioning timeline announced this time are directly related to the group's existing PV manufacturing layout, but the amounts of the two investment plans should not be simply added together.

India has already implemented domestic manufacturing requirements for modules and cells used in domestic PV projects, and has established a policy framework to extend the relevant requirements to ingots and wafers starting from June 1, 2028. Jakson Solar plans to establish upstream manufacturing capacity around this timeline and supply relevant products to external PV module manufacturers.
