Thailand Approves 50 Billion Baht Solar Installation Program for One Million Households
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 27, Thailand's Cabinet approved a 50 billion baht (approximately 1.48 billion USD) household solar power support program, targeting 1 million households nationwide. Thai Prime Minister Anutin officially launched the "Solar for All" project that day. The government will provide up to 50,000 baht in installation subsidies per household to support residents in building distributed photovoltaic power generation systems, and will allow households to sell surplus electricity to the grid.

The program supports the installation of rooftop, ground-mounted, and floating solar systems. The standard installation package offered by the Thai government costs 140,000 baht per household. After deducting the subsidy, participating households can cover the remaining 90,000 baht through loans or their own funds. The Government Savings Bank, the Government Housing Bank, and the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives will provide supporting loans at an annual interest rate of 2.5% with a 7-year term.
The Metropolitan Electricity Authority of Bangkok and the Provincial Electricity Authority of Thailand are responsible for household applications, equipment standards, and grid connection services. Residents can register through the online channels or service outlets of the two electricity agencies. The application period runs from October 27, 2026 to January 31, 2027. Approximately 400 installation companies accredited by the electricity agencies will participate in on-site surveys, focusing on roof load-bearing capacity, installation location, and solar utilization conditions. On-site surveys are scheduled to be completed by June 30, 2027.
Thailand's Cabinet also approved over 200 billion baht in smart grid investment, including smart meter upgrades by the two electricity agencies. The supporting mechanism allows households to prioritize self-consumption of photovoltaic power generation and sell surplus electricity to the electricity agencies at a rate of 2.20 baht per kilowatt-hour.
