Portugal's Lowlow Launches Bulk Goods Logistics Center in June with Daily Delivery Capacity of 1,000 Items

The facility covers 8,000 square meters, including 3,000 square meters of indoor space, and features 8 dedicated loading docks, currently handling an average of approximately 300 orders per day.

The facility has a daily delivery capacity of 1,000 items, and even without expanding the existing area, it is expected to more than triple current processing volumes. The warehouse is leased, and the property itself is already suited to such operations. Lowlow stated that this approach helps channel resources into building up its team and fleet.

The choice of Loures was driven by its proximity to Lisbon and its location near the region's main highway arteries. At present, the center serves the Lisbon and Tagus Valley regions, with the company planning to expand to Porto in 2027 and to the Algarve in 2028.

Bulk goods logistics is playing an increasingly significant role in Lowlow's business, with this segment already contributing approximately 35% of revenue, while accounting for a relatively limited share of total delivery volumes. The company has set a goal for this business to account for half of its turnover in the future. Lowlow has noted that Portugal's bulk goods delivery market remains relatively fragmented, with a lower level of specialization compared to small-parcel delivery. The growth of online furniture and large appliance purchases, the advancement of omnichannel retail, and an increase in B2B deliveries are all driving up demand for specialized services.

Lowlow founder and CEO Rafael Fernandes stated that, based on market performance, demand growth has outpaced the expansion capacity of specialized supply, particularly in the B2B and bulk goods segments. He noted that such services go beyond mere point-to-point transportation, requiring goods to be delivered intact, installation to be completed, and service to be provided by professional teams at agreed-upon times; the Loures operations facility has been configured precisely to meet the demands of this market scale.

The center offers warehousing and inventory management, delivery of goods to the recipient's designated floor or room, assembly, installation, collection of old equipment, returns and reverse logistics, and also features a pickup point. Additional services include scheduled delivery, communication with recipients, and traceability data and quality metrics for corporate clients.

All personnel entering the facility or customers' residences are part of Lowlow's own team, and on-site delivery operations are not outsourced. The center currently employs 8 permanent staff members handling administration, dispatch, and warehouse management. The main service areas currently cover furniture, large appliances, specialized retail, and commercial premises supply. The company also plans to extend this service to the automotive and energy sectors, both of which often involve the combined transport and installation of heavy equipment.

The bulk goods operations fleet comprises 22 vehicles in total, including 8 electric vans, 10 container trucks, 1 three-axle heavy-duty truck, 1 galera (a type of cargo vehicle), and 2 vehicles with lifting platforms. Among these, the 8 electric vans handle deliveries in city centers, while the remaining vehicles take on operations where current loads or mileage are not suitable for electric solutions. Lowlow believes that full electrification of bulk goods logistics is still not technically feasible at this stage, as the payload and range of large electric vehicles have yet to fully match the transport requirements of oversized goods.

The new facility also marks Lowlow's entry into a more specialized segment of last-mile delivery, enabling it to manage growth without rushing to expand its infrastructure. The Loures project is not simply an addition to its service portfolio, but rather places bulk goods at the core of the company's growth strategy.
