en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 27, Primetals Technologies announced a project update, stating that JSW Steel has placed an order with the company for two pellet plants at its Paradip production site in Odisha. Each pellet plant is designed with an annual capacity of 8 million tons, bringing the combined annual capacity to 16 million tons. Primetals is responsible for the complete plant design, engineering services, key process equipment, full process automation systems, as well as technical consulting services during the construction and commissioning phases.

The new pellet plants will adopt an 816 m² grate-kiln solution, which will also serve as the basis for the standardized design of JSW Steel's future pellet plants, to be used in expansion projects at Paradip and other production sites. Both parties have agreed to continue collaboration on improving the pellet production process after the new facilities are commissioned.

The automation systems include smart sensors, predictive control models, and Level 2 automation systems. Among these, the Pelletizing Optimizer digital optimization tool will automatically regulate the green ball production process, controlling pellet size distribution and process parameters.

In the same project update, Primetals also confirmed that it has obtained Final Acceptance Certificates for two 350-ton LD converters, two 350-ton ladle furnaces, and two twin-strand slab casters supplied to JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Limited's steel plant in Toranagallu, Karnataka. The first converter was commissioned in December 2024, and the second in August 2025; the two casters can produce slabs with widths ranging from 900 to 1650 mm and thicknesses of 220 or 260 mm.
