Vietnam's VinMetal Signs Contract for Over 700,000 Tons of Rail and Section Steel Rolling Equipment
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 15, VinMetal, a steel manufacturing enterprise under Vietnam's Vingroup, formally signed an equipment supply contract with Italian metallurgical equipment manufacturer Danieli Group for the construction of a rail and section steel rolling production line with an annual capacity of over 700,000 tons at the VinMetal steel complex in Ha Tinh Province, Vietnam. Under the contract, Danieli is responsible for the design, manufacturing, supply, and trial operation of the production line's core equipment, with products covering high-speed railway rails, urban rail transit rails, and section steel for industrial construction.
The production line is located in Vung Ang Economic Zone, Ha Tinh Province, Vietnam, and is part of the specialized steel manufacturing system of the VinMetal steel complex. VinMetal is building a large-scale steel production base locally, with Phase I planned to produce approximately 6 million tons of steel annually, and Phase II planned to increase overall capacity to 20 million tons. The rail and section steel rolling equipment procured this time will be used to produce specialized steel required for railway, bridge, port, and logistics infrastructure projects.
Danieli will provide the production line with technologies related to rail rolling and section steel finishing. Its rail manufacturing technology system includes special high-quality rail rolling mills, precision section steel sizing processes, and rail head heat treatment processes, respectively involving rolling forming, cross-section dimensional control, and rail head hardening treatment. The related technologies have been applied in industrial projects such as the voestalpine Donawitz rail plant in Austria. The contract explicitly stipulates that Danieli will undertake the supply of core equipment and trial operation tasks.
The manufacturing of rail products involves control of rail head profile precision, rail straightness, material mechanical strength, and wear resistance; section steel products, meanwhile, are subject to corresponding requirements for cross-sectional dimensions and load-bearing performance based on construction and bridge engineering needs. VinMetal plans to develop rail and structural section steel products of various specifications through this production line to supply Vietnam's high-speed railway, urban rail transit, industrial plant, bridge, and port construction projects.
Following the signing of this equipment contract, the specialized steel production line of the VinMetal steel complex has entered the core equipment procurement stage. Danieli will carry out equipment engineering design, manufacturing, and subsequent commissioning work in accordance with the contract, while VinMetal is responsible for advancing the construction of the production line within the steel complex in Ha Tinh Province.
