U.S. ATC Manufacturing Launches 5,354-Square-Meter Expansion, Completion Set for Late Summer 2027

This follows the company's receipt of a contract from the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) for the large-scale, high-throughput manufacturing of thermoplastic composite aerospace structures.

ATC is advancing the expansion in partnership with general contractor Baker Construction and Bernardo Wills Architects, the designer of the new facility, with the City of Post Falls providing support throughout the permitting and development process. The expansion will increase ATC's capacity to meet demand from commercial and defense customers for lighter, more durable aerospace composite structures designed to replace traditional metal and thermoset components currently used in U.S. defense systems.

As defense programs seek to bring next-generation platforms into service more quickly and commercial aircraft manufacturers work to ramp up production, industry analysts and manufacturers expect significant growth in thermoplastic composite adoption across both markets in the coming years. With its expanded capacity, ATC is well positioned to capitalize on this trend.

Thermoplastic composites are increasingly seen as a key solution to one of the biggest challenges in aerospace manufacturing: producing lightweight, high-strength structures fast enough to meet growing demand in both defense and commercial sectors. Unlike traditional thermoset composites, thermoplastic materials can be reheated and reshaped, enabling shorter processing cycles and production rates suitable for large-scale aircraft manufacturing.

The expansion will bring dozens of engineering, entry- and mid-level technician, and skilled trades positions to ATC's Post Falls facility. ATC participates in the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) SkillBridge program, which allows service members within 180 days or less of separation to gain on-the-job training or work experience at the company. The expansion is expected to be completed by late summer 2027, and ATC already has multiple projects in the pipeline expected to quickly utilize the added capacity.
