en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 19, Indian engineering contractor Larsen & Toubro announced that it has received a Limited Notice to Proceed issued by the consortium developing Uzbekistan's New Tashkent International Airport project, formally commencing preliminary design, detailed engineering design, construction planning, and procurement preparation for the airport terminal and landside infrastructure works. The contract falls under the company's "Ultra Mega" order category exceeding INR 150 billion, with the scope of work covering a terminal with an annual passenger throughput capacity of approximately 17 million and associated facilities.

Larsen & Toubro had previously been awarded the design, procurement, and construction turnkey contract for the New Tashkent International Airport terminal and landside infrastructure. The Limited Notice to Proceed was issued by the public-private partnership project consortium responsible for airport development, marking the transition into the concrete implementation preparation phase. Under the contract arrangements, the contractor will carry out engineering design, construction organization planning, procurement scheme preparation, and pre-construction site preparation during this phase, and will advance equipment and material procurement arrangements in line with the project schedule.

The scope of work covers airport site grading, landside road infrastructure, the terminal main structure, architectural finishes, mechanical and electrical systems, utility works, and the installation of airport-specific systems. Among these, site grading and road works constitute the infrastructure development around the terminal, while the terminal works include building structures, finishes, and mechanical and electrical systems such as power supply and distribution and water supply and drainage. The contractor is also responsible for the installation of relevant airport-specific equipment and systems, with the works ultimately serving an annual passenger transport demand of approximately 17 million.

The project development consortium will issue the Full Notice to Proceed once the conditions stipulated in the contract are satisfied, at which point Larsen & Toubro will commence physical construction on site. The progress announced on October 19 primarily concerns engineering design and pre-construction preparation; the construction contract was signed earlier.

On October 3, the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan, together with relevant institutions and Larsen & Toubro, held a supplier engagement event for the New Tashkent International Airport project, with approximately 200 local enterprises participating to learn about the project's technical requirements, scope of construction, product and service procurement needs, and subcontracting conditions. The engagement covered local manufacturers, material suppliers, and engineering subcontractors involved in airport construction, and the related procurement preparation has been advanced in parallel with the airport terminal engineering design.
