en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 2, AkzoNobel officially inaugurated a €7.5 million powder coatings innovation laboratory at its site in Sassenheim, the Netherlands, further strengthening the research capabilities of the company's largest R&D center in the world. Stientje van Veldhoven, the Dutch Minister for Climate and Green Growth, attended and presided over the official opening ceremony of the laboratory.

The laboratory focuses primarily on the powder coatings sector, aiming to accelerate the development of more sustainable, solvent-free, and energy-efficient coating solutions. Research areas include low-temperature curing technologies to reduce energy consumption during application, improved coating application processes and performance, as well as advanced particle analysis.

Research objectives include enhancing customer production efficiency, extending product service life, and reducing maintenance and material consumption. Through these solutions, AkzoNobel will further strengthen its ability to reduce carbon emissions across the entire value chain.

Frank Vergeer, R&D Director of AkzoNobel's Powder Coatings business, stated: "We have built a global reputation in product innovation, and the new laboratory will be key to ensuring we continue to deliver impactful innovation. This investment consolidates our leadership in powder coatings technology while also expanding the company's broader innovation capabilities in coating performance, application, and advanced particle analysis."

AkzoNobel has already reduced its CO2 emissions by 50% in its own operations (Scope 1 and 2, based on the 2018 baseline), achieving this target four years ahead of schedule. The company currently employs approximately 2,700 R&D professionals across 70 laboratories worldwide, with R&D investments exceeding €1.3 billion over the past five years.
