en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 27, the alkyl polyglycoside (APG) capacity expansion project of German chemical company BASF at its Cincinnati, Ohio, site in the United States was completed and put into operation, with the new production facilities having been constructed and officially commissioned. The project's investment planning was initiated in 2023 and is a key initiative by BASF to expand local production capacity for bio-based surfactants in North America, with the new capacity primarily serving the personal care, home cleaning, industrial cleaning, and agricultural application sectors.

This expansion builds on the existing chemical production base in Cincinnati by adding new alkyl polyglycoside production facilities. BASF's 2025 annual report lists the project as a major investment in its Nutrition & Care business segment, specifying the construction content as a new alkyl polyglycoside production unit and identifying 2026 as the planned completion year. With the commissioning of the new facilities, the Cincinnati site has expanded its local product supply capacity for the North American market.

The alkyl polyglycosides produced at the new unit are non-ionic surfactants made from natural renewable raw materials, and the products are readily biodegradable according to the OECD 301 standard. The products are used in shampoos, skin cleansing products, household detergents, industrial and institutional cleaners, industrial formulations, and agricultural adjuvants, among other applications. BASF has integrated the expanded Cincinnati production facility into its global alkyl polyglycoside supply system, where it shares regional supply responsibilities with production sites in Düsseldorf, Germany; Jinshan, Shanghai, China; and Bang Pakong, Thailand.
