Core Equipment Installation Completed for EnviTec's Swedish Biomethane Project
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 27, the biomethane project of German bioenergy engineering company EnviTec Biogas in Vara, Västra Götaland County, Sweden, reached a new construction milestone. The project is invested in and built by Biogas Västra Skaraborg AB (BVS), with a designed annual processing capacity of approximately 370,000 tonnes of agricultural organic feedstock and a maximum annual biomethane output of 70 million kWh. The EnviThan gas upgrading system supplied and installed by EnviTec has passed factory acceptance testing and been installed on site. The project is now advancing pipeline, electrical, and other mechanical equipment installation, with biomethane production scheduled to begin in January 2027.

The feedstock intake system at the construction site has been fully installed. All concrete storage tanks and anaerobic digester tanks were constructed by EnviTec's subsidiary EnviTec-Greten, and the installation of internal tank equipment has also been completed. The first batch of double-membrane gas storage facilities has been installed, and the heat exchanger units have been delivered and connected to the production system. On-site piping, electrical works, and installation of the remaining mechanical equipment are being carried out in parallel.
The feedstock handling system adopts a process layout with separate feeding of liquid and solid feedstocks. Tanker trucks unload within a dedicated technical building; liquid feedstock is conveyed via pipelines to receiving tanks and then into the anaerobic digesters, while solid feedstock is fed into the fermentation system through feeding equipment and mixed with the liquid feedstock. The project will process pig and cattle slurry and solid manure from surrounding farms. BVS is composed of approximately 100 local farmers.
The biogas produced by fermentation will be upgraded into biomethane through EnviThan membrane separation technology and then delivered to the downstream liquefaction unit provided by the owner to produce bio-liquefied natural gas (Bio-LNG). The plant is equipped with a waste heat recovery system that uses heat from fermentation residues to preheat the liquid feedstock entering the unit. The external equipment protection structures of the digesters are designed in accordance with Swedish winter wind and snow load conditions, and each construction phase is inspected by designated technical experts.
According to the project commissioning plan, BVS will transfer feedstock from nearby biogas plants during the biological start-up phase for initial filling of the digesters. EnviTec is responsible for related biological process guidance and will coordinate with the owner on the phased commissioning of the fermentation system, gas upgrading system, and downstream liquefaction unit. Cold commissioning is scheduled for autumn 2026.
