en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 28, Singapore Airlines signed a binding sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) offtake agreement with Aether Beacon, a subsidiary of Aether Fuels, to purchase up to 4,800 tonnes of fuel over three years starting in 2028. The product will be supplied by Aether's Beacon project on Pulau Bukom in Singapore, a facility being developed within the Aster refinery and petrochemical complex with a planned annual production capacity of approximately 2,000 tonnes of fuel and targeted to enter commercial operation in 2028. Singapore Airlines becomes the project's first airline customer.

The Beacon project uses Aether's proprietary Aurora technology to produce sustainable aviation fuel from waste carbon feedstocks such as biomethane and industrial off-gases. The process employs an improved Fischer-Tropsch synthesis technology to convert waste gases into liquid aviation fuel. The project is designed to produce approximately 50 barrels of fuel per day, with products including sustainable aviation fuel and other liquid fuels.

The fuel purchased by Singapore Airlines is intended to obtain certification under the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). Aether has previously completed commissioning of an integrated sustainable aviation fuel technology platform at Research Triangle Park in North Carolina, USA, and the related test data will be used for the engineering design of the Beacon commercial production facility.

Aether also plans to launch its first large-scale commercial sustainable aviation fuel plant before 2031, with a target production capacity at least 10 times that of the Beacon project.
