en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 15, Belgian oleochemical manufacturer Oleon held a commissioning ceremony for its new esterification production unit in Conroe, Texas, USA. The unit completed commissioning in September and has been fully operational, becoming Oleon's first esterification production facility in the United States. The new unit is built at the company's existing Conroe plant and primarily produces specialty ester chemicals for the North American market.

The Conroe plant established its North American production base in 2023, initially equipped with product blending, filling, packaging, warehousing and logistics facilities. With the commissioning of the esterification unit, the plant has added specialty ester synthesis capability, enabling local manufacturing of ester products and subsequent formulation blending to provide customized products for various industrial customers. Oleon previously announced an initial investment of more than US$50 million in the Conroe site, with the investment plan covering existing facilities and subsequently installed process equipment.

The new unit uses natural oil and fat-derived feedstocks such as vegetable oils and animal fats to produce specialty ester products suitable for lubricants, drilling fluids, hydraulic fluids and environmentally friendly lubricants. Its product range also includes rheology modifiers, emulsifiers, and functional chemicals for electric vehicle working fluids and thermal management systems. The company will adjust ester products and blend formulations according to performance requirements across different application areas.

Oleon's parent company, France's Avril Group, stated that the new unit operates in integration with the existing manufacturing and logistics facilities at the Conroe site, responsible for supplying locally produced specialty chemicals to North American customers. The plant is located in Texas's concentrated chemical industry region, enabling production leveraging local oil and fat feedstock supply, transportation networks and industrial support facilities. The Conroe site previously focused on warehousing and blending operations; with the commissioning of the esterification unit, it now forms a production system spanning from specialty ester manufacturing to product filling, packaging and distribution.
