LG Uplus Joins Forces with Four Companies to Form PMDC Alliance, Developing 100MW-Class Modular AI Data Center Standard Model
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 4, LG Uplus, along with GS Engineering & Construction, Xi C&A, Gansam Architects & Partners, and D&O CM, signed a PMDC Alliance cooperation agreement at Pyeongchon Mega Center in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province. The five parties will jointly develop a standard model for Prefabricated Modular Data Centers (PMDC) and promote its application in actual AI data center projects.

Since April this year, the five parties have been jointly developing a 100MW-class hyperscale PMDC model, and are currently advancing two standard approaches in parallel: one targeting greenfield AI data centers, and the other for retrofitting existing buildings into data centers with AI infrastructure capabilities. The standardization scope includes building structures, power systems, and cooling equipment. These units will be prefabricated at factories and then transported to project sites for assembly.
LG Uplus is responsible for establishing PMDC operational standards and technical requirements, determining business direction, and validating the standard model, based on its existing data center construction and operation experience as well as the engineering conditions of the Paju AI data center project. GS Engineering & Construction is responsible for constructability review, process optimization, and the integration of EPC capabilities for the greenfield PMDC model, while also validating building structures, construction methods, schedule compression plans, and project cost feasibility. Xi C&A is responsible for developing the retrofit model for existing buildings and for optimizing power and cooling systems.
Gansam Architects & Partners undertakes standardized building design, translating modular building structures, equipment spaces, and data center functional requirements into standard design solutions. D&O CM is responsible for the project management system, covering coordination across various disciplines and engineering management during the design, construction, and delivery phases. Through this collaboration, the five parties have established a joint development framework encompassing five key areas: operational requirements, architectural design, EPC construction, MEP optimization, and project management.
The PMDC standard model modularizes building structures, power supply, and cooling equipment, with major components and equipment units manufactured at factories, while on-site work is focused on installation, connection, and system integration. The five parties are currently prioritizing the validation of the 100MW-class model's construction organization, module interfaces, power and cooling system configurations, and future expansion methods in both greenfield and retrofit scenarios.
