en.Wedoany.com Reported - The New South Wales planning department in Australia has approved Goodman Property Services' construction of the Project Apollo data center at Macquarie Park, Sydney. Located at 4-10 Talavera Road, the project, designated as State Significant Development application SSD-74069708, has transitioned from the planning assessment phase to the formal approval milestone.

The approved scheme provides for a data center capacity of up to approximately 135MW, with a total capital investment of approximately AUD 1.37 billion. The plan includes the construction of a data center building of up to approximately 45 meters in height, housing 8 data halls and supporting office space. The project's total gross floor area is approximately 28,900 square meters, with an estimated 400 jobs during the construction phase and approximately 60 jobs during the operational phase.

The project's power supply will be connected via multiple grid feeders, with on-site backup power systems also configured. The approved scheme includes 66 diesel backup generators, lithium-ion battery systems, and 36 cooling towers, along with a planned rooftop photovoltaic system of approximately 540kW. The New South Wales Environment Protection Authority previously confirmed in the project review materials that the revised scheme involves a 135MVA-class data center and 66 diesel generators, raising review requirements for air emissions, diesel storage, battery systems, and greenhouse gas management.

Goodman initially commenced the project application in 2024, with the initial load in the early application documents at approximately 90MVA. As the scheme was refined, the project scale was increased to approximately 135MW in the environmental impact assessment and subsequent materials. Following this planning approval on September 2, the project has completed the key prerequisite milestone of State Significant Development approval.

Upon completion, the project will operate on a 24-hour basis. The approval documents also impose corresponding conditions on water usage, electricity, backup power generation facilities, and environmental management, with compliance documentation related to local water supply infrastructure required prior to operation.
