GE HealthCare's StarGuide GX Digital 4D CZT SPECT/CT Receives FDA 510(k) Clearance in the U.S.
en.Wedoany.com Reported - GE HealthCare recently announced that its new digital 4D CZT SPECT/CT system, StarGuide GX, has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The system had previously obtained CE marking, and this U.S. approval marks progress in the clinical adoption of its next-generation molecular imaging technology.

Designed to address the needs of theranostics and precision medicine, StarGuide GX is a comprehensive SPECT/CT system. It supports imaging across multiple energy levels, enables general-purpose SPECT imaging, and is tailored for emerging tracer applications, including investigational alpha emitters, aiming to provide imaging support for clinicians and researchers exploring new pathways in diagnosis, treatment planning, and therapy response assessment.
With the advancement of radiopharmaceutical therapies, interest in alpha-emitting isotopes within the nuclear medicine field continues to grow. As noted in the materials, alpha-emitting isotopes such as actinium-225 and lead-212 can be used for highly targeted cancer therapy, characterized by the release of high-energy radiation over short distances to minimize impact on surrounding healthy tissue. As these therapies expand, accurate imaging and quantitative analysis of alpha emitters will support treatment planning, dosimetry, response evaluation, and related clinical research.
In terms of technical configuration, StarGuide GX utilizes GE HealthCare's proprietary dual-sided CZT (cadmium zinc telluride) detector technology, designed to enhance volumetric sensitivity while maintaining high-resolution imaging capabilities, helping clinicians acquire more imaging information within shorter scan times. The system also integrates NVIDIA RTX computing technology to optimize image reconstruction and accelerate result generation.
Additionally, the system is equipped with a proprietary dual-collimator detector that enables collimator exchange within three seconds, designed to streamline traditional collimator change procedures and improve workflow efficiency in nuclear medicine departments. Its automated collimator exchange design also helps reduce the need for multiple collimators, carts, and corresponding storage space.
GE HealthCare stated that StarGuide GX is designed as an integrated system supporting advanced imaging technologies and emerging tracers, with the goal of helping clinicians expand molecular imaging capabilities and advancing theranostics and personalized medicine.
