Zhejiang Petrochemical's 1.2 million t/a PDH unit selects CATOFIN technology

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 10, Zhejiang Petroleum & Chemical Co., Ltd. confirmed the construction of a 1.2 million t/a propane dehydrogenation (PDH) unit. The project will adopt Lummus Technology's CATOFIN process, and Clariant has been awarded the contract to supply CATOFIN catalysts and Heat Generating Material (HGM) for the unit. Based on the disclosed scale, the unit is designed with a propylene capacity of 1.2 million t/a.

Lummus is responsible for CATOFIN process licensing and related technical services, while Clariant is responsible for the supply of catalysts and HGM materials. CATOFIN uses the propane dehydrogenation route to produce propylene, and HGM, as a supporting material for the process, is used for heat management in the reaction system. This disclosure also clarifies both the project's core process route and the supply relationship for key catalytic materials.

The propylene produced by the new unit will enter Zhejiang Petrochemical's existing downstream petrochemical product system. The project's feedstock end is integrated with the propane resources of Zhejiang Petrochemical's refining and chemical base, forming an integrated production chain of "propane feedstock—PDH to propylene—downstream petrochemical products."

Clariant this time only disclosed the catalyst and HGM supply arrangement, and the contract amount was not made public. Lummus has also confirmed that its CATOFIN technology has been selected by Zhejiang Petrochemical. This milestone further advances the project from capacity planning to the stage of process licensing and core material procurement.
