DP World Invests €50 Million to Expand German Chemical Logistics Base
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 11, DP World launched the expansion project of its chemical logistics base in Wolfenbüttel, Germany, with a planned investment of €50 million to build a new 30,000-square-meter warehouse and a rail freight terminal. The new warehouse will be specially equipped for lithium-ion battery storage. A groundbreaking ceremony has been held for the project, which is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2027.
This expansion will further transform the Wolfenbüttel base into a multifunctional chemical logistics hub. The existing facilities will continue to serve agrochemical customers, while the new warehousing facilities will add lithium-ion battery logistics capabilities for the automotive industry. DP World previously disclosed that the base was approaching the capacity limit for some chemical logistics operations, and the company plans to increase its overall European chemical logistics capacity by approximately 30% by 2028. The 30,000-square-meter expansion project in Wolfenbüttel is one of the new facilities under this plan.
The new rail terminal will be directly integrated into the base's logistics system for the transport of dangerous goods and will connect customers to DP World's logistics network in Europe and worldwide. Once the project is completed, the Wolfenbüttel base will simultaneously have chemical warehousing, dedicated lithium battery warehousing, and rail transshipment capabilities. DP World has already listed Wolfenbüttel as one of its existing chemical logistics nodes in Germany's official list of chemical logistics sites.
According to the currently announced implementation plan, the expansion project will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2027 and is expected to create up to 80 new jobs. The €50 million investment covers the construction of the warehouse and the rail terminal, but publicly available information has not yet disclosed the specific storage capacity of the lithium-ion battery warehouse, the number of storage locations, the designed throughput capacity of the rail terminal, or the construction contractor.
