Wedoany.com Report-Jun 23, Neoenergia, based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has begun constructing a green hydrogen (H2V) power plant in Taguatinga, Federal District, one of Brazil’s pioneering facilities of its kind. With over R$30 million ($5.46 million) invested, the plant will fuel light and heavy vehicles. Part of the ANEEL-regulated Research, Development, and Innovation Program, it is slated for completion in October 2025.

Situated near Brasilia, Taguatinga’s economic and administrative significance makes it ideal for this zero-CO2-emission mobility project. Powered by a photovoltaic plant, the facility will aid decarbonization in hard-to-electrify sectors like automotive transport.

Eduardo Capelastegui, Neoenergia’s CEO, said: “Our commitment is to boost electrification through investments in innovative technologies. Brazil has competitive advantages, such as an abundance of affordable renewable energy, which positions it as a natural leader in the energy transition.”

The plant will double as an innovation hub, promoting green hydrogen as a sustainable energy source. Its opening aligns with Brazil’s hosting of COP 30, reinforcing Neoenergia’s climate leadership. The facility’s two-pressure fuel system will serve diverse vehicles, including buses, trucks, and cars.

Neoenergia’s parent company, Iberdrola, has run two H2V projects in Spain since 2022, including one for urban mobility in Barcelona. In late 2025, Iberdrola will complete Spain’s largest green hydrogen plant at bp’s Castellon refinery. The Taguatinga project builds on this model, tailored to Brazil’s needs, advancing sustainable transport and renewable energy.
