BYD Plans to Launch Its First Solid-State Battery Vehicle in 2027
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Recently, BYD Executive Vice President Li Ke said in an interview in Spain that BYD plans to launch its first vehicle equipped with solid-state battery technology in 2027, marking a further step in the company's solid-state battery R&D from the cell and engineering validation stage into the vehicle application stage. Li Ke said that BYD is currently advancing the development of solid-state battery technology and its commercialization capabilities, and the first application vehicle will become an important milestone for the technology's deployment at the vehicle level.
BYD had previously set out a clear industrialization timetable for all-solid-state batteries. The technical head of the company's battery business once said that BYD is focusing on the development of sulfide solid-state batteries and plans to enter the small-batch demonstration application stage starting in 2027, initially mainly for mid-to-high-end models; around 2030, as manufacturing processes, yield rates and costs further improve, it will then gradually promote large-scale application. BYD has already carried out R&D on 20Ah and 60Ah-class solid-state cells and continues to advance the development of material systems, cell manufacturing processes and production equipment.
Li Ke also said that with the continued popularization of ultra-fast charging technology, the refueling efficiency of China's new energy vehicles during use is further approaching that of traditional fuel vehicles. BYD launched its second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology in 2026 and is currently continuing to advance the expansion of related battery production capacity and the construction of its flash charging network. According to the company's plan, by the end of 2026 it will have built about 20,000 flash charging stations in China and will continue to deploy related infrastructure in overseas markets.
Solid-state batteries are an important part of BYD's next-stage power battery technology roadmap. Compared with the liquid lithium-ion batteries currently used on a large scale, their industrialization focus will be on solid electrolyte materials, solid-solid interface stability, cell manufacturing consistency and large-scale production costs. After the first vehicle is launched in 2027, BYD's solid-state battery technology will enter the vehicle demonstration and validation stage and provide an engineering data foundation for subsequently expanding production capacity and the range of vehicle applications.
