Germany's RENOLIT Invests €56 Million to Expand Raw Material Handling Facility in Worms

en.Wedoany.com Reported - German plastic film manufacturer RENOLIT has announced that it is investing €56 million to build a new raw material mixing facility at its Worms headquarters. The project has now entered the main construction phase, with precast concrete components being installed. Civil construction began in February of this year, with the building structure scheduled for completion in December 2026. Equipment installation will begin in November, and the new metering and mixing system is expected to be commissioned in June 2027.

The new facility will primarily serve RENOLIT's existing plastic film production lines, handling automated weighing and mixing of plastic raw materials, color pigments and other additives. The project will construct a multi-story production building and connect it directly to the existing film production workshop via an enclosed steel structure passage, enabling automated conveyance of raw materials from the mixing facility to downstream production processes.

According to the equipment configuration, the first phase of the project will install 8 outdoor raw material storage tanks, with provisions for expansion to 16; the plant will house 37 automated weighing stations, as well as high-precision metering systems for materials such as trace pigments. The mixing section will be equipped with 6 large-scale mixing units, with recipe management and production scheduling handled through a computer control system.

The logistics system is also a key focus of this renovation. The new plant will use autonomous transport vehicles to move heavy material containers, with the vehicles shuttling between the mixing facility and the existing film production workshop through the enclosed passage, thereby reducing manual handling and improving production continuity. RENOLIT also plans to use heat pumps to heat the new building and to equip the mixing units with new low-maintenance drive systems to improve cooling efficiency and reduce operating noise.

This €56 million project is part of a larger modernization plan for RENOLIT's Worms site. The company disclosed in May of this year that it is advancing the integration of its two production sites in Worms and Frankenthal, having completed the overall conceptual design and entered the detailed planning phase. Subsequent work will include expanding existing production buildings, constructing a new finished goods warehouse and raw material warehouse, and installing multiple new production lines, with the first new production line scheduled to go into operation in 2028.

RENOLIT is headquartered in Worms and operates more than 30 production and sales sites in over 20 countries worldwide, specializing in plastic films, sheets and related products. This raw material handling project will first upgrade the upstream mixing and logistics systems at the Worms site, providing support for subsequent production line integration and additional capacity.
