Russian Company Severstal Releases Lightweight Steel Structure Solution for Industrial Buildings

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 23, Russian company Severstal released a rapid-construction steel structure solution for industrial and logistics buildings at the BUDEXPO 2026 exhibition held in Minsk, Belarus, with key coverage of large warehouses, production plants, logistics centers, and hangars. The solution was developed by the Severstal Engineering Center, with the core focus on reducing steel structure consumption, construction costs, and construction timelines through high-strength steel and lightweight structural design.

For Class A/A+ large warehouse buildings, the company introduced the "Molodechno" lightweight roof truss using Powerweld 420 high-strength steel, suitable for column grids of 12×18 m, 12×24 m, 12×30 m, 18×24 m, and 18×30 m, with a maximum span of up to 30 m. In a 52,000 m² warehouse project, after replacing S355 steel with Powerweld 420, the steel structure weight decreased by 15%, and the project budget including installation costs decreased by 10.2%.

For Class B/B+ warehouses, hangars, and production buildings, Severstal introduced the Spider 2.0 system. This system uses galvanized thin-walled steel sections, assembled with bolts, requiring no on-site welding or painting. The company disclosed that its overall cost can be up to 50% lower than traditional ferrous metal structure solutions. In a 1,730 m² warehouse project, Spider 2.0 reduced the steel structure weight by 37% and the cost including installation by 40%.

Severstal also completed full-scale fire resistance tests of the Spider 2.0 structure and obtained certification for a fire resistance rating of up to R15. The company also developed a set of standardized design drawings for industrial buildings, covering different scenarios such as logistics centers, production plants, agricultural buildings, and sports facilities, providing standardized solutions for subsequent project design and material selection.

This release focuses on the lightweight and standardized application of steel structures in industrial buildings. Severstal proposed matching steel strength, column grids, and structural systems according to different building grades, reducing steel consumption per unit of building area through the synergy of material performance and structural design, and shortening on-site construction timelines.
