China Road and Bridge Signs Commercial Contract for Bangladesh Industrial Park Infrastructure
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 12, the Bangladesh Office of China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) formally signed the commercial contract for the supporting infrastructure project of the Bangladesh Chinese Economic Industrial Zone (CEIZ), with Song Yang, Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh, witnessing the signing on site. The project is located in the Anwara area in southern Chattogram, Bangladesh, and the scope of works includes a dedicated park wharf, a centralized sewage treatment plant, internal roads, transmission lines and substations, natural gas pipelines, and other facilities. This signing marks new progress following the Bangladeshi government's approval of the relevant engineering procurement plan on September 23.

The industrial park is planned to cover approximately 314 hectares and is jointly developed by CRBC and the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), with the two parties implementing the park's investment, development, and operation through a joint venture. CRBC holds a 70% equity stake, while BEZA holds 30%, with the Bangladeshi side contributing 50-year lease rights over the park land as its capital contribution. During the Bangladeshi Prime Minister's visit to China in June 2026, the two sides signed the park investment and development agreement, followed by the project's groundbreaking ceremony in July.
The park's supporting infrastructure project was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council of Bangladesh on June 16, with a total approved investment of 41.89 billion taka, of which approximately 24.67 billion taka is planned to be raised through a preferential buyer's credit from the Export-Import Bank of China, and the Bangladeshi government bears approximately 17.22 billion taka. The project is scheduled for implementation from January 2027 to December 2031. On September 23, the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase of Bangladesh further reviewed and approved the engineering procurement plan, recommending CRBC to undertake the relevant construction tasks.
According to the engineering plan previously announced by Bangladesh, the supporting infrastructure includes a multipurpose wharf capable of berthing vessels of 20,000 deadweight tonnage, a 1,235-meter wharf connecting road, a 330-meter bridge, and a 1,181-meter four-lane road. The utility works include a centralized sewage treatment plant with a daily treatment capacity of 25 million liters, natural gas supply facilities with a daily supply capacity of 4.24 million cubic feet, a reservoir with a total capacity of 20,304 cubic meters, and two 33/11 kV substations. In addition, the park will also build solid waste collection facilities with a daily treatment capacity of 60 tons and approximately 12 kilometers of perimeter walls.
The park has attracted over a hundred enterprises to conduct on-site inspections, with a total of 21 letters of intent for park entry and 2 land lease agreements signed. According to the plan, the park will focus on introducing textile and garment, machinery manufacturing, electronic information, biomedicine, and green energy-related industries. The park is located on the south bank of the Karnaphuli River, adjacent to the Karnaphuli Tunnel, Shah Amanat International Airport, and Chattogram Port. The planned supporting roads and port facilities will connect the park's production areas with the surrounding transportation network.
