Technip Energies Launches SnapLNG 1.5 Modular Solution with 1.5 Million Tons per Year per Single Train

The solution uses a single LNG liquefaction train with an annual capacity of 1.5 million tons as its basic unit, adopts a fully modular and electrified design, and can be scaled to larger projects by replicating identical liquefaction units. Technip Energies stated that compared with traditional development models, the solution can shorten the overall construction cycle of LNG projects by up to approximately two years through standardized design, off-site prefabrication, and electrically driven liquefaction equipment.

The responsibility chain for SnapLNG 1.5 is divided among the three companies. Technip Energies is responsible for solution commercialization, LNG engineering execution, modular design, and digital project delivery; Honeywell Technologies provides natural gas pretreatment, liquefaction, and automation technologies; Siemens Energy is responsible for electrified turbomachinery and compression systems. The three parties integrate standardized process packages, core equipment, and engineering execution methods into a single platform, providing replicable liquefaction units for small- and medium-scale LNG projects.

The core of the technical approach is a standardized design of 1.5 million tons per year per single train. Project developers can replicate identical production trains according to total capacity requirements, rather than conducting independent designs for each train. Equipment and modules are manufactured off-site as much as possible and then transported to the project site for installation, thereby reducing on-site construction work and the number of engineering interfaces. The liquefaction compression system uses electric motor drive rather than traditional gas turbine drive, in order to reduce direct emissions during the operational phase and improve the degree of standardization in equipment layout.

SnapLNG 1.5 is not an entirely new route independent of Technip Energies' existing SnapLNG system. The company previously adopted the SnapLNG modular solution at the Commonwealth LNG project in the United States. The project is located in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, with a total liquefaction capacity of 9.5 million tons per year, configured with 6 identical liquefaction trains. Technip Energies was awarded the EPC contract in 2025 and received full notice to proceed in May 2026, with the project formally transitioning from early activities to full execution.

The Commonwealth LNG project adopts a "single design, six replications" implementation approach, serving as a direct case of the SnapLNG standardized model entering a large-scale actual project. In its first-half 2026 results, Technip Energies reaffirmed that all 6 liquefaction trains at the project use the same modular design to compress the engineering cycle, optimize costs, and improve the predictability of batch delivery. SnapLNG 1.5 this time further clarifies the standard single-train scale as 1.5 million tons per year and introduces Honeywell pretreatment and liquefaction technologies as well as Siemens Energy electrically driven compression equipment.

Technip Energies disclosed that the world may need more than 200 million tons per year of additional LNG capacity by 2035, with the United States expected to contribute about 50% of global LNG market growth. SnapLNG 1.5 is therefore mainly aimed at LNG developers seeking to reduce upfront engineering complexity, shorten construction cycles, and expand capacity in phases. The solution currently represents a standardized engineering product launch milestone, and this announcement has not yet disclosed new specific project customers, EPC contract amounts, or the name of the first commercial SnapLNG 1.5 project.

The three companies plan to hold a cooperation signing ceremony during Gastech 2026 in Bangkok to further confirm the technical partnership for SnapLNG 1.5. The focus of subsequent commercialization will be to introduce the 1.5 million-ton-class standard liquefaction unit into specific LNG development projects and to build batch replication capability around off-site module manufacturing, electrified compression systems, and standardized engineering packages.
