en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 15, Samson Sky announced that it has secured an $80 million investment from Dubai-based Matin Group, with the funds to be used for building the company's first Switchblade flying car production facility. The two parties have signed a joint investment agreement and begun establishing a joint venture to advance the Switchblade from the R&D and testing phase into commercial production preparation. Samson Sky also stated that an additional $20 million still needs to be raised to close the full funding loop for full-scale production.

The proposed production facility will cover approximately 180,000 square feet and is planned to be located in the United States, though the specific state and city have not yet been announced. In April of this year, Samson Sky stated that the company had entered the site selection and preliminary construction preparation phase for its first U.S. production base, including hiring, material procurement, and production system development. With the $80 million investment now in place, the production base construction has obtained its primary source of funding.

The Switchblade is a two-seat hybrid flying car with a three-wheel road driving layout. In road mode, the vehicle fully retracts its wings and tail into the body, allowing it to be parked in a standard garage; upon arriving at an airport, the wings and tail structure can be deployed and converted to flight mode in approximately 3 minutes. The model is positioned for regional travel scenarios of approximately 200 to 500 miles.

Samson Sky currently plans to have the Builder Assist assembly line ready by summer 2027. According to the company's published production model, the Switchblade will enter the U.S. market as an Experimental category aircraft, and owners will need to complete at least 51% of the manufacturing work themselves in accordance with FAA regulations. Samson Sky plans to have customers complete the corresponding assembly steps at a Builder Assist Center in approximately one week, after which the company will complete the remaining vehicle manufacturing and delivery.

The Switchblade prototype completed its first flight in November 2023. Since 2026, the company has continued to advance engineering validation of the production version, including the hybrid power system, cooling system, tail assembly, and manufacturing of components for the first production test vehicles. Samson Sky expects to have 3 production prototypes ready between the end of 2026 and early 2027 for subsequent engine and full vehicle validation.

The production version of the Switchblade adopts Samson Sky's self-developed SkyBrid hybrid power system, which uses a four-cylinder liquid-cooled engine to drive a generator, which in turn supplies power to the electric motors for the wheels and flight propulsion system. According to the company's latest product materials, the vehicle can reach a maximum speed of approximately 200 mph in flight mode, with a maximum flight altitude of approximately 13,000 feet.

Samson Sky stated that the Switchblade has already received demand from customers in all 50 U.S. states and 50 countries worldwide. First-year production will prioritize deliveries to early Pre-flight Owner customers, followed by supply to other customers in reservation order.
