Wedoany.com Report-Jun 25, Cenovus Energy, a Canadian oil and gas company, completed the installation of a concrete gravity structure (CGS) at its West White Rose field offshore Newfoundland, Canada, on June 22, 2025. The 200,000-tonne structure, which supports a drilling platform, was installed ahead of schedule due to favorable weather.

Over a month ago, the CGS left the graving dock in Argentia, Newfoundland, and was positioned at an offshore site for six weeks. After ballasting to a 65-meter draft at Placentia Bay, it was towed to the White Rose field on June 13, 2025. The structure will anchor a topside module for drilling and oil extraction.

The topside module, shipped from Kiewit’s yard in Texas on June 3, 2025, is set to arrive later this summer. Cenovus, the operator and majority owner of the White Rose field, 350 kilometers east of St. John’s, operates the original field with subsea technology tied to the SeaRose FPSO vessel.

The West White Rose project targets resources west of the field using a fixed drilling rig connected to the SeaRose FPSO, extending the field’s production by approximately 14 years. Cenovus’ Q1 2025 report from May noted the project was 90% complete, on schedule for platform commissioning in 2025 and first oil in Q2 2026.

Cenovus stated: “The West White Rose project is progressing toward installation and commissioning of the offshore platform later this year.” This milestone supports Canada’s offshore energy development.
