Wedoany.com Report-Jun 25, Swedish contractor Peab has been chosen by Österåker Municipality to undertake infrastructure and pipeline work for the new Hagby äng och kulle city district in Åkersberga, Sweden. The contract, valued at SEK 220 million ($23 million), supports the development of a vibrant urban area located 2.5km west of Åkersberga’s city center.

Completion is forecast for 2027.

The Hagby äng och kulle project aims to blend urban living with green spaces and recreational areas, creating a cohesive district with a small-town atmosphere. It will feature a mix of housing, public services, and city center activities, integrated through a network of streets, parkways, and communal spaces. The design respects the area’s cultural history and natural landscape, ensuring a sustainable and appealing environment.

Peab region manager Carl Johan Söderberg stated: “We’re proud to be part of the development of Hagby äng och kulle. Our work will contribute to creating a sustainable and vibrant city district that will benefit both current and future generations.” The project is set to begin in June 2025 and is expected to be completed by 2027, with the contract recorded in Peab’s order book in the second quarter of 2025.

In addition to this project, Peab recently secured an $87.5 million contract with Hitachi Energy to construct a 20,400m² facility in Ludvika, Sweden. This new plant will include a factory, offices, and locker rooms, designed to support sustainable manufacturing practices. Earlier in April 2025, Peab also won a contract to build a 100-unit housing development in Lindvallen, Sweden, further demonstrating its active role in the country’s infrastructure and housing sectors.

The Hagby äng och kulle initiative reflects Österåker Municipality’s commitment to fostering sustainable urban growth while preserving the region’s natural and cultural heritage. Peab’s expertise in infrastructure development will play a key role in bringing this vision to life, creating a district that meets the needs of residents and enhances community connectivity.
