Construction of the Uzbekistan A380 Highway Upgrade and Reconstruction Project Undertaken by CRCC 20th Bureau Commences
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 18, construction officially commenced on the upgrade and reconstruction of the 581 km to 673 km section of Uzbekistan's A380 "Guzar—Bukhara—Nukus—Beyneu" Highway. Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the launch and commencement ceremony for a batch of new projects in Karakalpakstan that day. The Uzbek Presidential Administration confirmed that the A380 highway section whose construction was launched this time has a total length of 92 km, with a total project investment of approximately US$233 million, financed by the Asian Development Bank.

The project is located in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and is an important component of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Corridor 2. According to Asian Development Bank project documents, the project covers the 581 km to 673 km section of the A380 highway. The construction content is not simply widening the entire 92 km of existing two-lane road, but is implemented through a combination of newly built bypass roads and upgrading of existing roads. The project will overall form approximately 87 km of modern road, including approximately 75 km of newly built four-lane cement concrete bypass highway and approximately 12 km of widening and reconstruction of the existing A380 highway, along with supporting construction of service areas, intelligent transportation systems, and dynamic weighing facilities.
CRCC 20th Bureau is responsible for the construction of Lot 2. According to disclosure by the Asian Development Bank, the contract for this lot was signed on July 16, 2026, with a contract amount of US$104,649,738. The construction scope includes the newly built 31.5 km bypass highway, the widening and reconstruction of 12 km of the existing A380 highway, and the construction of related road service facilities. The project owner and executing agency is the Highway Committee of the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan, and the construction funds for Lot 2 are fully included within the scope of Asian Development Bank loan financing.
The 581 km to 673 km section of the A380 highway will pass through the Turtkul, Elikkala, and Beruniy districts. When the Uzbekistan Highway Committee previously launched the procurement of construction supervision for the project, it clearly stated that the works include the construction of bypass roads in the above areas, and the supervision scope covers construction design review, engineering quality and quantity certification, and contract management.
In August 2025, the Asian Development Bank approved a US$233.14 million loan to Uzbekistan for the implementation of the "Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Corridor 2 Resilience and Modernization Project." The total project cost is approximately US$293.7 million, of which the Asian Development Bank loan is US$233.14 million and Uzbekistan's counterpart funding is approximately US$60.56 million; the loan was signed in September 2025 and officially became effective in January 2026, with project fund execution planned to be completed by the end of 2030.
On September 19, the Uzbek Presidential Administration further disclosed that after the 92 km section is completed, the transit traffic volume of the relevant corridor is expected to increase by 1.5 times, and the cargo transportation time from Turtkul to the border with Kazakhstan is expected to be shortened from one day to about 10 hours. Construction has now entered the formal construction stage, and the construction plan disclosed by the project party shows that the relevant works are expected to be completed in 2029.
