Bangladesh MEP Group's 2 Billion Taka Electrical Products Manufacturing Plant Advances Construction

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 20, Bangladesh's MEP Group disclosed the latest investment arrangements for its electrical and electronic products manufacturing project located in the Mirsarai National Special Economic Zone in Chattogram. The project involves a total investment of approximately 200 crore taka, equivalent to 2 billion taka, and covers an area of about 10 acres. The project is being implemented by MEP Hi-Tech Industrial Park Limited, a subsidiary of the group, with a production scope that includes wires and cables, switches and sockets, fans, LED lighting products, circuit breakers, and other electrical and electronic products.

Construction of the project officially commenced on July 26. The Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority previously signed a land lease agreement with MEP Hi-Tech Industrial Park Limited, and the project funding comes entirely from domestic investment in Bangladesh. According to the implementation plan announced at the signing stage, plant construction is scheduled to continue until December 2028, with commercial production targeted for January 2029.

The production system further covers high-voltage and low-voltage wires, cables, energy-saving lamps, and PVC pipes, among other products. Once completed, the project will form an electrical products manufacturing cluster serving residential, industrial, and commercial markets, with local sales and export operations configured in parallel. At full capacity, it is expected to create approximately 2,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The National Special Economic Zone is laid out along the coast of Chattogram, where approximately 15 industrial projects have already been put into operation and about 20 projects are under construction. The MEP manufacturing base has entered the actual construction phase within the park.
