Peru Granted Permits for 150 Mining Projects in First Eight Months, Involving Over US$3.067 Billion in Investment

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 21, Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines published the progress of mining project approvals for the first eight months of 2026. A total of 150 mining projects nationwide obtained permits or authorizations, corresponding to an investment amount of more than US$3.067 billion. Among the approved projects, 87 involve mineral processing concessions, 39 involve mining, and 24 involve exploration. The Ministry of Energy and Mines' full-year target is to facilitate 240 mining projects in obtaining relevant permits.

This round of approved projects includes mining projects such as Zafranal in the Arequipa region, Antapaccay and Constancia in the Cusco region, Carachugo Stages 10 and 14 in the Cajamarca region, and Yumpag Carama in the Pasco region. Zafranal obtained a mineral processing concession permit, corresponding to an investment of approximately US$1.0426 billion; the Stage 4 expansion project of the Antapaccay South open pit corresponds to an investment of approximately US$389 million.

The Constancia mine-related project involves an investment of approximately US$184.4 million, involving an increase in approved processing capacity from 41,900 tonnes per day to 95,000 tonnes per day. In June of this year, Hudbay also obtained approval for a modification to the environmental permit for the Constancia processing plant, raising the approved annual processing capacity from 31 million tonnes to 34 million tonnes.

Minera Yanacocha's Carachugo Stages 10 and 14 heap leach pad reconfiguration project corresponds to an investment of approximately US$127.6 million; Buenaventura's Yumpag Carama mining area involves an investment of approximately US$124.3 million, with the scope of work including mining plan adjustments, underground excavation works, and ventilation shafts and other facilities.

Peru's Minister of Energy and Mines Guillermo Shinno previously disclosed that Peru's mining exploration project portfolio for 2026 is approximately US$760 million, covering 17 regions, with approximately US$352 million currently underway. Of this, approximately US$195 million in projects are in the environmental management document review stage, while another approximately US$160 million, involving 6 projects, are awaiting startup permits for exploration activities.
