Egypt's Kemet Data Center Plans 80MW Capacity with US$270 Million Initial Investment

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 23, Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hendy held talks with representatives of INTRO Holding Group to review the implementation plan for the Kemet Data Center project. The project is planned to be built in the Sokhna Integrated Industrial Zone under the Suez Canal Economic Zone, with a planned total capacity of 80MW and an initial investment of approximately US$270 million. Its business scope includes cloud computing, IoT, and digital transformation services.

INTRO Holding plans to build Kemet as the first data center project in the Suez Canal Economic Zone planned to Tier III standards, primarily targeting enterprise customers requiring large-scale cloud computing, data processing, and hosting capabilities. Egyptian officials disclosed that the talks focused on project execution procedures and implementation timelines, and the project is still in the engineering advancement stage.

The initial US$270 million investment corresponds to the first phase of construction within the 80MW master plan. Public information shows that INTRO has signed contracts with multiple equipment and infrastructure suppliers, and will continue to advance engineering design, equipment configuration, and on-site implementation. TechAfrica News disclosed that the project's engineering design has not yet been fully completed.

In addition to the initial investment, multiple local public sources in Egypt have also mentioned that the overall investment target for the Kemet project is up to approximately US$1.2 billion. However, the official statement from Egypt's State Information Service this time explicitly disclosed the amount as US$270 million for the initial phase. Therefore, the official initial investment figure shall prevail in the formal draft.

The Sokhna Integrated Industrial Zone, where the Kemet project is located, is a key industrial segment of the Suez Canal Economic Zone. The project will continue to advance construction implementation and equipment deployment, ultimately forming 80MW of data center capacity.
