Spain's Silverio 100 MWh energy storage approved, grid connection in the first half of 2027
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Nexwell Power has obtained authorization to add a battery energy storage system with a capacity of more than 100 MWh to the Silverio photovoltaic plant in the province of Córdoba, Spain. Once the addition is completed, Silverio will become the first photovoltaic plant in Córdoba approved to operate in hybrid mode, and the new battery is expected to be connected to the grid in the first half of 2027.

This permit covers both renewable power generation and the accompanying newly built energy storage system. According to Nexwell Power's plan, the Silverio project is the first phase of its larger-scale energy storage plan, and the combined capacity of the systems in this phase is approximately 1 GWh. The basic idea is to store part of the solar power produced during the day for use when needed, thereby extending the period during which the plant can supply power.
The Silverio plant will add more than 100 MWh of energy storage capacity in addition to the existing photovoltaic power generation facilities. Nexwell Power links this combination to stronger power management capability during sunny periods, stating that part of the electricity can be stored for later use, enabling the system to meet customer demand for more hours.
Nexwell Power CEO Jorge Lara said this is another step toward the company's goal of providing customers with renewable energy that is not only sustainable but also aligned with their electricity usage characteristics and reliability requirements.
In the first phase, the combined capacity of the battery systems planned by Nexwell Power is close to 1 GWh, reflecting the scale of energy storage the company intends to deploy for its renewable energy plants. Silverio is the first of this batch of projects and the first project in this new business line of the company approved in Córdoba to combine solar power with batteries.

The expected grid connection time for the Córdoba project is the first half of 2027. Before that, the next step is related to the construction and execution of the BESS (battery energy storage system) approved through AAC. Nexwell Power points out that this configuration will enable it to expand its power sales capability 24 hours a day. The approach is to combine solar power generation, energy storage, and asset management to provide customers with solutions tailored to their respective electricity usage characteristics. This initiative is incorporated into the company's positioning in renewable, flexible, and cost-competitive energy solutions.
From an operational perspective, the main role of the battery is to store part of the electricity produced by Silverio during sunny power generation periods. This electricity can be used later, including during the nighttime hours when the photovoltaic plant stops generating, thereby allowing part of the electricity obtained during the day to be used in another time period. Nexwell Power also links this model to reducing dependence on fossil energy during specific periods, pointing out that solar power produced during the day can meet part of the nighttime demand, so that this portion of demand does not need to be met by other power generation sources.
This strategy targets industrial customers and energy partners and aims to provide stable, reliable, and cost-competitive electricity. The Silverio project launches Nexwell Power's energy storage business line with a scale of more than 100 MWh and is implemented ahead of other projects, which will raise the planned capacity to close to 1 GWh.
