en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Aurora Pacific Economic Zone and Freeport Authority (APECO) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Huge Energy Co., Ltd. and Dong-A Global to advance a renewable energy project with a total investment of USD 131 million (PHP 8.2 billion) in Casiguran, Aurora, the Philippines.

Under the plan, the project will build 1,000 megawatts (MW) of solar power generation facilities, supported by a battery energy storage system (BESS) and substations. It is expected to take three to four years to complete, with construction targeted to begin in 2027.

The project will be developed in three phases. Phase one will build solar photovoltaic generation facilities, BESS, and substations, with an initial target capacity of approximately 100 MW; phase two will add 350 MW of capacity using solar and waste-to-energy technologies; phase three will add another 550 MW.

Huge Energy Stock Co., Ltd., a Chinese solar mounting system manufacturer, will work with Dong-A Global to lead the project's technical and financial work. APECO is responsible for overseeing economic zone development, site management, and coordination with government agencies. The companies involved are expected to submit feasibility studies and other regulatory documents later this year.

APECO President and CEO and Undersecretary Gil Taway IV said a stable and reliable power supply is crucial for the economic zone to attract more investment. He said energy must come first before all of this can be realized, and not just any energy, but clean, reliable energy, making renewable energy an indispensable part of APECO's development strategy.

Taway said the additional power capacity can help APECO attract industries, support digital infrastructure and data centers, expand manufacturing and logistics activities, and promote value-added activities in agriculture and fisheries. He added that the project will also enhance energy security, cultivate local skills, and create more jobs and economic participation opportunities for the people of Aurora.
