Construction of Section Two of Nigeria's Calabar–Abuja Superhighway Accelerated

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 26, during an inspection of the Calabar–Ebonyi–Benue–Kogi–Nasarawa–Abuja Superhighway, Nigeria's Minister of Works David Umahi required contractors to increase the number of construction work fronts and accelerate the construction of Section Two. Section Two is approximately 173 kilometers long, with a contract value of approximately 683 billion naira. The contractor has currently commenced construction on the first 8-kilometer segment and is addressing engineering technical issues near the Ado Bridge.

Umahi required that at least 3 construction work fronts be opened for Section Two, along with increased personnel and equipment input. This section traverses complex terrain including rivers and swamps. At the current stage, the focus of construction organization includes river crossings and handling of difficult road sections; while permanent works are being advanced, temporary traffic measures will also be adopted in some sections to maintain construction traffic.

This inspection also disclosed the latest construction data for Section One. Section One is approximately 123 kilometers long and is being constructed by Infiouest, with a current completion progress of approximately 39.33%. This section adopts continuously reinforced concrete pavement technology. Construction has advanced from the Ndibe Beach direction, extending through Timber Junction, Akpoha, Amudo and other areas toward Onueke, with the double-sided concrete pavement having advanced to approximately the 43-kilometer mark.

Route adjustments have also entered the scope of this round of construction management. Nigeria's Ministry of Works requires contractors not to demolish buildings located on the existing route alignment for the time being, to re-conduct technical assessments of built-up areas, sharp curves, and affected road sections, and to adjust the route alignment where necessary. Such adjustments must not increase the project costs borne by the Federal Government under existing financing arrangements.

This superhighway connects the regions of Calabar, Ebonyi, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Abuja. Section Two continues from the Ebonyi State boundary toward Benue, Enugu, Kogi, and Nasarawa, and is incorporated into the Trans-Saharan Highway network. Section One was previously adjusted from approximately 118 kilometers of single carriageway to approximately 123.6 kilometers of dual carriageway, with a related project investment scale of approximately 445 billion naira.
