Wedoany.com Report-Jul. 5, The Tonalli solar panel factory, located in Cuautlancingo, Puebla, Mexico, has commenced operations with an annual production capacity of 200,000 solar panels. Launched in June 2025, the facility represents a MXN 325 million investment through a partnership between the Puebla state government and private sector stakeholders. The factory aims to supply electricity to educational institutions, rural communities, and the agricultural sector in the region.

Bernardo Álvarez Ibarra, a businessman involved in the project, stated: “The plant would generate 200 direct jobs and more than a thousand indirect jobs linked to the manufacture, installation and maintenance of solar systems.” The initiative will also establish a network of local suppliers and distributors, enhancing Puebla’s renewable energy ecosystem and strengthening regional economic ties.

A key focus of the project is electrifying public schools, with over 800 educational facilities in Puebla currently lacking electricity access. The state plans to install 400 photovoltaic systems in 2025 and an additional 400 in 2026, aiming to reduce electricity costs for these schools by up to 80%. This effort will improve access to reliable power for education, supporting community development.

The agricultural sector will benefit from the provision of photovoltaic systems and extraction pumps for over 3,000 agricultural water user associations. Solar energy adoption in agribusiness is expected to optimize irrigation systems, lower operating costs, and promote sustainable farming practices across Puebla.

The Tonalli factory has earned the Made in Mexico certification, affirming the quality and national origin of its solar panels. Federal authorities from the energy and economic sectors presented this certification, recognizing the plant’s role in job creation and technological innovation. Álvarez Ibarra noted: “This certification was presented by federal authorities from the energy and economic sectors, who highlighted the factory's role in generating employment and promoting technological innovation in the country.”

In its next phase, the factory will relocate to the Capital City of Technology and Sustainability in San José Chiapa, Puebla. This move will integrate local small and medium-sized enterprises into the supply chain and provide training for specialized workers, further boosting the region’s renewable energy sector.

The Tonalli factory’s operations mark a significant step toward sustainable energy development in Puebla. By addressing energy needs in education and agriculture, the project supports economic growth, job creation, and environmental sustainability while fostering innovation in Mexico’s renewable energy industry.
