en.Wedoany.com Reported - Dow and Amcor announced a strategic partnership to combine Dow's low-carbon polyethylene materials, materials science, and carbon footprint management capabilities with Amcor's packaging design, manufacturing, and global customer network to develop low-carbon packaging solutions for brands and retailers. The two parties will jointly identify packaging applications with technical and commercial feasibility and advance relevant solutions into customer evaluation and scale-up stages.

The collaboration will focus on the application of low-carbon polyethylene in existing packaging structures. Dow will provide low-carbon PE materials and product carbon footprint data, while Amcor will be responsible for packaging development, manufacturing, and customer application validation. The two parties stated that the goal is to reduce packaging-related greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining packaging performance, quality, and functional requirements, and to avoid requiring customers to undertake large-scale packaging redesigns or add new production infrastructure.

The two parties will also incorporate Dow's Carbon Footprint Ledger (CFL) methodology into the collaboration. This methodology is based on the mass balance mechanism in greenhouse gas accounting, can provide product carbon footprint information that has undergone independent assurance, and aligns with frameworks such as ISO 14067 and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Product Life Cycle Accounting and Reporting Standard. Amcor will combine relevant data to provide customers with packaging carbon footprint information for comparison of different material options and procurement decisions.

In terms of commercial implementation, Dow and Amcor will jointly identify packaging categories suitable for low-carbon material substitution and introduce value chain participants such as raw material suppliers, packaging manufacturers, and brand customers at an early stage. Dow stated that the two parties will also test new business models based on market mechanisms to reduce the initial adoption risk of low-carbon packaging and establish clearer market demand signals. The official announcement currently does not disclose specific investment amounts, initial brand customers, procurement volumes, or mass production timelines.
