Egypt's Sokhna Port Signs EGP 1 Billion Digital Truck Hub Project

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 26, the Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority (SCZONE) signed a contract with Nafith Egypt for Logistics Services to develop and operate a digital truck hub at Sokhna Port. The project involves an investment of more than EGP 1 billion, covers an area of 167,000 square meters, and will be able to handle approximately 1,100 trucks per day once fully operational. The contract was signed jointly by Ahmed Gamal, Vice Chairman of SCZONE for the Southern Region, Abeer Leheta, Chairman of Nafith Egypt and Managing Director of Egytrans NOSCO, and Noura Mahyar, Vice Chairman of Nafith Egypt and Managing Director of Nafith International.

The project is not merely the construction of a parking lot, but rather the simultaneous deployment of a physical truck hub and a digital traffic management system. Nafith's platform will manage truck booking, arrival, identity matching, queuing, and release for vehicles entering Sokhna Port, and will use real-time planning to control the timing and sequence of vehicle entry into different terminals. Once the project is fully operational, the average daily vehicle handling capacity in the first two years is expected to increase by 50% to 60% above the current design level.

The most core digital component of the project is its integration with Nafeza, Egypt's National Single Window for Foreign Trade. This interface is already in actual operation and can receive cargo customs clearance and release status in real time; once Nafeza confirms that cargo is cleared for release, the Nafith system then matches the corresponding vehicle and driver and schedules them to enter the designated terminal at the specified time, thereby directly linking customs clearance status with port vehicle dispatching.

The contract term is 25 years. Nafith Egypt previously won the project through international tender, with Jordan's Nafith International holding 70% and Egyptian logistics company Egytrans NOSCO holding 30%. Nafith International is responsible for digitalization and port traffic management technology, while Egytrans NOSCO possesses capabilities in trucking, project logistics, freight forwarding, warehousing, and shipping agency services.

The Sokhna Port project is Nafith Egypt's second digital truck management project within the SCZONE system. In June of this year, SCZONE allocated 114,000 square meters of land for it at West Port Said to build a truck hub and digital traffic management project with an investment of approximately EGP 200 million, also under a 25-year cooperation term. With both ports using a unified platform, vehicle booking, dispatching, and port traffic management systems can reuse the same digital architecture.

From the perspective of project implementation structure, what has been added at Sokhna Port this time is a 167,000-square-meter physical terminal and a digital dispatching platform already connected to the National Single Window. The project's service targets directly correspond to vehicles entering and leaving the port area, rather than being an independent software procurement. The construction goals disclosed by SCZONE include reducing truck waiting and congestion inside and outside the port, improving fleet utilization, and incorporating port vehicles, terminal operations, and cargo customs clearance status into unified dispatching.
