Burckhardt Wins Order for Two High-Speed Compressor Packages from Germany's MTU

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 28, Burckhardt Compression received an order from MTU Maintenance Berlin-Brandenburg to supply two high-speed compressor packages for its industrial gas turbine test facility in Ludwigsfelde, Germany. The equipment will be used for performance testing of MTU industrial gas turbines after repair, overhaul, and rework, and the compressor packages are configured to meet the continuous operation and reliability requirements of the test facility.

MTU Maintenance Berlin-Brandenburg currently carries out MRO work in Ludwigsfelde for GE Aerospace LM-series aeroderivative industrial gas turbines, mainly covering the LM2500 and LM6000 series. After industrial gas turbines complete shop-level maintenance, they need to undergo performance testing in the test facility, and the two compressor packages procured this time will be used in this testing stage. The test facility currently operates on natural gas and is also undergoing adaptation modifications, with plans to support natural gas-hydrogen blended fuel with a hydrogen volume fraction of up to 25% in the future.

Ludwigsfelde is also the core base for MTU's industrial gas turbine MRO business. In March 2025, MTU began construction of a new industrial gas turbine maintenance production facility. The new facility will be used for LM-series gas turbine maintenance and will include a training center and an apprentice workshop. MTU plans to increase the volume of incoming LM2500 and LM6000 industrial gas turbine repairs by 30% compared with 2024 over the next several years, while adding approximately 40 related professionals.

The industrial gas turbine maintenance business at this base continued to receive more orders this year. In February 2026, MTU signed a three-year contract with Cheniere Energy to provide MRO services for the LM2500 industrial gas turbines used at the Sabine Pass LNG facility in the United States; in July, it also signed a five-year contract with Petrobras covering 10 LM6000 gas turbines and 3 associated hot-section component sets, with the maintenance work also undertaken by the Ludwigsfelde base. The new maintenance facility, testing capabilities, and the procurement of the two high-speed compressor packages this time all correspond to MTU's expanding LM-series industrial gas turbine maintenance workload.
