Deutsche Telekom Plans to Save €2.5 Billion Through AI by 2030
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 5, Deutsche Telekom held an AI Investor Day in Bonn, announcing the Group's artificial intelligence and automation business targets. The company expects that by 2030, AI and automation will reduce indirect costs for businesses outside the United States by approximately €2.5 billion compared with 2023; the related gross savings target for 2027 is approximately €1.1 billion. Deutsche Telekom confirmed that its existing guidance and mid-term financial targets remain unchanged.

Deutsche Telekom currently applies AI to mobile network operations, customer service, software development, and internal management processes. In the first half of 2026, the customer service chatbot "Frag Magenta" handled approximately 2.6 million customer service calls; in the U.S. business, the number of customer service calls has decreased by 55%, and AI agents currently handle approximately 40% of customer interactions.
In network operations, Deutsche Telekom uses AI to identify mobile network traffic peaks in advance and to assist with network planning and fault handling. The company also uses AI for software development and the replacement of legacy IT systems, with related applications covering the German business, European business, T-Systems, and T-Mobile US. The agenda for the October 5 Investor Day featured separate sessions on AI networks, internal IT and software productivity, enterprise customer AI, and T-Mobile US network and customer experience.
On the revenue side, Deutsche Telekom plans to increase AI-related revenue in its enterprise customer business outside the United States to approximately €800 million by 2030, while simultaneously expanding AI services for individual customers. The company will account for new AI business revenue and internal cost reduction targets separately, with the latter measured against a 2023 cost baseline.
Deutsche Telekom stated that some of the additional savings generated through AI and automation in 2027 will be reinvested in digital transformation and Germany's fiber optic network construction. The company expects that between 2023 and 2027, AI and automation can generate approximately €100 million to €150 million in savings for fiber construction-related processes, which will be used to improve the efficiency of fiber access deployment.
