en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 5, India's National Aluminium Company (NALCO) issued a Letter of Award to Hedge5 for a 7MW grid-connected rooftop solar project. The project is being advanced with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam as project management consultant, and the construction sites are distributed across NALCO's facilities in Angul and Damanjodi, Odisha. NALCO had already issued a public tender for a 7000kW rooftop solar project in January this year, covering the facilities at the aforementioned two locations.

Once completed, the project is expected to generate approximately 10.43 million kWh annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 6,780 tons per year. Hedge5 will apply its AI platform to project execution monitoring and will continuously record emission reduction data after commissioning, forming a data chain usable for carbon accounting and auditing.

NVVN is responsible for project management, including organizing and reviewing tenders, verifying construction execution and subsequent operations and maintenance work; the final work is awarded by NALCO to the winning bidder, and payments during the project construction period and the subsequent 5-year O&M period are also paid by NALCO, with NVVN responsible for certifying completed work.

The rooftop solar will be deployed on the roofs of NALCO's existing industrial facilities, complementing the company's existing distributed solar. NALCO has previously installed approximately 850kWp of rooftop solar systems at its own plant sites, and with the commissioning of this 7MW project, its plant-site rooftop solar scale will be further expanded.

NALCO is currently simultaneously advancing the Angul aluminium smelter expansion and associated power projects. In July this year, the company signed a joint venture agreement with NLC India to plan the construction of a 4×270MW, totaling 1080MW captive power plant in Angul; in September, it also signed a DX+ Ultra electrolysis technology license with EGA for an additional 500,000 tons/year of aluminium capacity. This 7MW rooftop solar project falls under the distributed renewable energy construction at existing plant sites and is implemented separately from the large-scale expansion projects.
